Welcome to The Thurman Perry Foundation

We are an award winning Louisiana-based nonprofit operating nationally dedicated to bettering the lives of women and girls impacted by incarceration.

Our vision is to remove obstacles to success & ensure that every woman and girl receives a fair chance to thrive and succeed.

We have one goal: to improve the lives of women and girls impacted by the criminal justice system. We focus on direct giving, educational assistance, and advocacy to assist them in returning to and rebuilding their lives.

Periods in Prison: A 4-Part Workshop

In conjunction with PERIOD, a global youth-fueled nonprofit, TPF has created a 4-part workshop series about period poverty and menstrual equity in U.S. correctional facilities. This groundbreaking curriculum is designed to inform learners of how period poverty uniquely impacts incarcerated women & girls using extensive research done by The Thurman Perry Foundation & PERIOD.

Encouraging Education

The Perry ‘Second Chances’ Scholarship provides women and girls impacted by incarceration who are currently enrolled in an accredited college, university, or vocational school with one-time scholarships to supplement their tuition, textbooks, housing, childcare, or other essential resources that they need to thrive in their educational endeavors.

Providing Provision

Our Girl Code Program™ aims to ensure that all currently incarcerated women and girls have access to the high quality period care products they need. We currently serve 5 facilities in Louisiana, Texas, and New York: The Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women, The Orleans Parish Justice Center, The East Baton Rouge Parish Prison, Bedford hills correctional facility, and Eden’s Place, A non-correctional Juvenile residential facility, with more to come.

American women’s incarceration rates, per capita, have doubled that of men’s for 2 decades. Because mass incarceration is societally framed as a male issue, gaping holes in successful reentry exist for the 1.9 million women released from state prisons and jails annually.

Mother’s Day 365

In honor of the amazing women who have made a difference in our lives, The Thurman Perry Foundation will be providing housing payment relief in the form of direct giving to deserving moms year round! The next round of applications will be announced soon.
