We’re Just 17 Days Away!!! The Thurman Perry Foundation March Newsletter

We are just 17 days away from the foundation’s first in-person event, Mother’s Day 365: A Jazz Luncheon & Fundraiser Honoring System Impacted Mothers! We have been working on this event, which will be held at the Ace Hotel New Orleans at 11AM on April 20th, since last year, and we are so excited to celebrate the mothers and daughters who have benefitted from our foundation. Several of our Mother’s Day 365 housing relief recipients will be present thanks to generously sponsored tickets from local and national organizations. We will also present the inaugural Sisterhood of Service awards to five phenomenal women making strides in the fight to create an equitable world for system impacted women and girls.

We have 4 tickets left before the event is sold out! If you’ve been thinking about attending the event to meet our local and national organizational partners, our program beneficiaries, our executive board, and our executive leadership, now is your chance. If you are unable to attend but want to sponsor a seat for a system impacted woman or girl to attend in your place, you can purchase the ticket and email webmaster@thurmanperryfoundation.org to let us know that you would like the seat offered to our waitlist.

We are in the final stretch of our Mother’s Day 365 fundraiser, which we’ll be using to restart the MD365 program. Due to a lack of funding for the initiative, the program has been paused since May of 2023. If we are able to complete our fundraiser this month, we will be able to restart the program in time for Mother’s Day 2024 in May and have enough to keep the program running for 1 FULL year. We are currently $4,081 away from our goal! Please give if you are able to, and share the campaign link with your friends, family, and colleagues: https://md365luncheon2024.funraise.org/

We could not do what we do without you!

Putting together an event of this magnitude, especially as a young organization, has been a challenging experience, but it is our goal to ensure that all of the attendees of the event have a phenomenal time, and that the women striving to make a difference in the criminal justice system are recognized for the necessary and tireless work they do on behalf of women and girls. We are counting on you, our TPF community, to help us reach our goal so that we can continue to support housing security for moms impacted by incarceration.

P.S. The Perry ‘Second Chances’ Scholarship has been EXTENDED TO APRIL 27TH! The 4th cycle of the scholarship, which will see us cross $100,000 in scholarship funding awarded, ends at 11:59PM PT on April 27, 2024. The award has doubled this year to be worth $4,000 as we try to make a bigger impact in our recipients’ educational journeys. If you know a currently or formerly incarcerated woman or daughter of an incarcerated person pursuing her education at an accredited 2-4 year college, university, or trade school, tell her to go to https://theperryscholarship.org! It’s not too late, and we want to help her succeed!

Sincerely,

Gabrielle A. Perry, MPH
