We’re Refreshed, Renewed, and Ready! The Thurman Perry Foundation March Newsletter

Spring Updates from The Thurman Perry Foundation!

Happy Spring!

This season of renewal has been busy for us, bringing exciting opportunities to serve.

First, let me say if we seem silent on social media, it is because I am in the midst of a 40-day Lenten social media fast from 5AM-5PM daily. Thank y’all so much for bearing with us as I observe my faith this sacrificial time of year!

Yet and still, we’ve been working hard to expand our Girl Code program nationwide. We’re thrilled to announce that Maine’s women’s correctional institution has agreed to receive our organic menstrual product donations—thanks to Serena Martin-Liguori (New Hour for Women & Children) and Linda Small (Reentry Sisters of Maine) for making this possible! We remain committed to our 1 MILLION product donation goal and hope to expand to another facility by year’s end.

We’re also honored to support A New Way of Life safe house, founded by the incredible Ms. Susan Burton. This home in New Orleans provides a fresh start for formerly incarcerated women, and we’ll be adding them to our Girl Code network to ensure they have essential resources.

Additionally, our 2024-2025 Perry Second Chances Scholarship winners will be announced soon! This cycle is our largest yet, and we’re grateful for your support in making it possible.

We could not do what we do without you!

With so much growth, we need your help. For a second year, our $35,000 sustaining grant from Grantmakers for Girls of Color has been unavailable, impacting our ability to fund critical programs. In response, we’ll be launching a $50,000 fundraiser to sustain our work, support formerly incarcerated mothers through Mother’s Day 365, and expand Girl Code to Maine.

Stay tuned—and thank you for being part of this mission!

With love and gratitude,

Sincerely,

Gabrielle A. Perry, MPH
