TPF Featured in Gambit Newspaper
The Thurman Perry Foundation announced plans to launch Girl Code, a new initiative that provides free high quality period care products to currently incarcerated women and girls. Inspired by her own experience in the Louisiana prison system, as well as a new Netflix series featuring women incarcerated in Orleans Parish Prison, founder Gabrielle Perry created the program and will deliver period care products to those incarcerated at the prison on the first of the month.
“So often we hear of or see the mass incarceration epidemic framed as a male issue and women are an afterthought, despite women and girls being the fastest growing incarcerated population,” she said. “Because women who are currently or formerly incarcerated are an afterthought, there’s a lack of resources to aid them when they come home.” – Gabrielle A. Perry, MPH.
