TPF Supports Organizations Working for the Greater Good

At The Thurman Perry Foundation, we recognize the importance of assisting organizations working to help those who have been impacted by the American carceral system much like we have received help ourselves. We are proud to say that we’ve donated to the following nonprofits:

Formerly Incarcerated Transitions Clinic New Orleans

The Formerly Incarcerated Transitions (FIT) Clinic program was founded in 2015 in partnership with Voice of the Experienced (VOTE) and the Prisoner to Patient (P2P) Initiative to eliminate healthcare disparities and achieve health equity among formerly incarcerated persons.

TPF established an annual fund with a grant of $5,000 to the FIT Clinic to support dental health services for recently released formerly incarcerated women in Louisiana.

TPF has given $9,000 in housing grants through our Mother’s Day 365 program and $2,000 in essential supplies to the residents of ANWOL’s New Orleans, LA and Charlotte, NC facilities.

Louisiana Justice for Survivors Coalition

The Louisiana Justice for Survivors Coalition supports the Justice for Survivors Act which would give judges the power to sentence survivors under lower sentencing ranges if the survivor proves that the abuse, sexual assault, or trafficking was a substantial contributing factor in the survivor’s participation in the offense.

TPF authorized a grant of $2,500 to support print and digital advertising used to inform the public about the JSA and an additional $117 to compensate the travel expenses for impacted women providing testimony during the legislative session.

Since 2024, TPF has given $5,400 to support the facility’s annual Christmas musical and holiday program for the women to celebrate our sponsorship and the holidays with them.

The Promise of Justice Initiative

Promise of Justice Initiative fights for the dignity, freedom, and autonomy of those targeted and touched by the criminal legal system and for an end to mass incarceration.

TPF gave a $5000 grant given to PJI to compensate the 50 incarcerated women at The Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women (LCIW) whose testimonies were used to support the Justice for Survivors Act in that year’s legislative session.

New Hour for Women & Children – LI

New Hour was founded to provide meaningful support to current and formerly incarcerated women, their children and families. They build community to promote successful re-entry and lasting reintegration, and to reform unjust criminal justice system policies.

TPF provided a $1300 grant for New Hour’s back-to-school booksack drive for the children of incarcerated parents that provided over 60 children with much needed school supplies. We also gave them a $2,500 grant to facilitate the delivery of 8-inch fans for the women housed at Taconic Correctional Facility in New York.
